Europe Trip Preparation

We are preparing for the Europe Trip right now. We're leaving in 22 hours (if the snow doesn't mess that up).
Heres the list and order of Cities:
London
Barcelona
Paris
Amsterdam
Dusseldorf
London
Our trip is 16 days total. Shannon's never left the country before. I'm way excited for her. A lot of people can't believe we're making a big trip. I think the big thing that makes this possible is our incredible budgeting plan. For the past 3 months basically we have barely eaten out, drank at bars, or bought extravagances. Living in NYC is like temptation around every corner. We bought coffee from the store and stopped going to starbucks altogether. For travel in Europe we are staying with friends in all the cities except London. I'm really proud of this fact. In London we'll be in a hostel. cheap. Things I'm nervous about:

*Being shunned for not knowing french
*Being pickpocketed (i think i'm paranoid enough to avoid this)
*Visiting a city and feeling like we didn't spend enough time there
*The potential 8-12 inches of snow that could delay or cancel our flight tomorrow.
*Losing ANYTHING
I've got a camera that will take some amazing pictures. Can't wait to post them.

More Newness

Finally my improv team The Spinoff's have performed a show! It's been months of practicing and usually with a different set of 4 or 5 of us at the same time. I think the hardest thing in the world is having an improv group that meets regularly and stays together for more than 4 months. It looks like the Spinoffs are on the right path. Our team is a combo of people that are mostly in at least 1 or maybe more improv groups. heres the rundown:
Rob Michael Hugel (me)
Tony Rodriguez (oscar Bait)
Shannon Coffey (Beaver Las Vegas)
Tim Martin ( Oscar Bait and a bunch of groups)
Dustin Drury (Iron Ruckus, Stamp and Coin Club)
Leslie Meisel (The Skuntz, and another team!)
Dan Klein (Pangea 3000 and another team)

It's True I don't know the name of all the other teams my team mates are on.
So here is a picture from our show last night. Tim and Dan couldn't make it but it was a great time anyway. We performed at Parkside Lounge where I'd never been but they have an awesome back room for shows.

The night was hosted By System Error. A combination of 3 teams, Thank You Robot, Bad Data, and a third that I can't find! This show was headlined by the System Error All Stars, which featured people from all 3 teams. We played first, followed by Ghost Fight, another local improv team. All in all a really fun night and a taste of the indie improv scene that I have not seen much of . I'm looking forward to getting some more shows and seeing some more teams. Heres some pics from last night.

WE are getting too close to future sounding years

2009. Soon we can say the word Twenty as the year. The year Twenty Ten. That's so futuristic!!
Back to 2009 I finally launched a website and posted a reel for people to view. I'm excited for this year. Shannon and I moved into a new apartment with a landlord who actually pays utility bills! Hooray! I also got a camera that I'll be posting pictures to my flickr with from now on. Good year.

Throop ave.

I've been twitting and not blogging lately. I think my blog is too general for me to keep it up. Does it need a theme other than being just Me? There's building drama at my apt. Apparently the "management" company hasn't been paying mortgage on the building. they haven't payed any bills in fact because we keep getting the notices from con edison. 2 new guys came around and say that they're taking over and collecting rent now. They're hasidic men who also work from the same address as the first company. Also they say that they'll be improving on the things here that need fixing like dirty hallways with burned out bulbs and what not. But their first priority is taking rent. Also the State issued us subpoenas that explain we need to send rent to someone else (a receiver) who is not related to these new guys. With the elections abuzz and a debate fresh in my head I can't help but compare. My building is the country. The Old owner is W, these 2 new guys are McCain, and the Reciever is Obama. Sure I don't know yet how the receiver will end up, but I trust him more than the guys who've been ignoring the building, bills, and acting illegally thus far. Heres jacob in our apartment. (couch is out of date!)

It's time to talk to your kids about the H word.

READ THIS
Did you read that article? good. Now this is just one article. It really is not important to me. But it represents an attitude that I just don't understand. Hipster. What is the obsession with this word? What does this word even define? Who is a hipster, who is not, who cares?

In New york City, a place that is supposed to be the most cutting edge and forward thinking city in the country/world, why is everyone obsessed with a word that tries to define basically anyone that is young. Oh and you can't care about how you look or be fashionable in any way. Thats it. By these definitions I'm a hipster. hooray. You can hate me all you want. (For the rest of this post I'm going to shorten to the H word because I'm so sick of hearing it myself I don't want to even contribute.)

Oh and these terrible h-word neighborhoods people speak of like greenpoint and williamsburg. HOW AWFUL. I mean there's all these people there drinking coffee or going to bars. Oh that just makes me sick. And they wear clothes! UGH with their colored t-shirts and their GASP skinny jeans! Oh wait this is the same stuff that happens in EVERY PART OF NYC. What do people do in the upper east side? Drink coffee and go to bars. Yes their pants are bigger and hooray for them. I bet they wear t shirts too! I'm not sure I should go research that one but I really do have a feeling that they wear Tshirts. I'll say this. I've never public places where people are SO well behaved like I have in Williamsburg. Go to a bar, go to the park, go to the coffee shop. Notice anything different? Yeah people are super polite. People keep to themselves, they're PATIENT, and they don't fight over petty thigns. Ever seen an H-word fight someone? Doesn't happen often. If i spend one weekend evening in the city its like freaking toontown all over the streets come 11pm. Its scary! Everywhere I turn there's some maniac and his girlfriend going at it screaming their drama and "Baby Don't Do this". Or a dude who is puking all over the middle of the street with broken glass all over his face. It's insanity!

Then there's the reasoning of, their new and they're ruining Brooklyn. Ruining Brooklyn? Who's ruining brooklyn are the people who live here already! I live off the Flushing stop near Woodhull hospital. Sometimes I just look out my window and watch the activity of the neighborhood. They treat this city like a garbage dump. They throw trash on the ground like it's a superbowl winning touchdown spike. Like the ground is gonna swallow it up and send it to the appropriate place. But its not. They keep walking and the trash remains in front of my apt. The place where I live and I pay rent. The place where some guy who owns my building makes a LOT of money and doesn't even pay his mortgage( I have the summons to prove).
Maybe everyone would like it if all these H-words packed up and left. Hey we'll even burn down all the stuff thats changed and leave all those empty wearhouses to be filled up with druggies and drunks and rapists and the city can go back to the way it was back in the 70s when nobody could walk the streets without getting mugged or killed.

I know not everyone is good. I know there's people that move here and are a total waste of space. They're following a trend and want to be a part of it. I'm sure there ARE "trust fund babies" and Douchy people do that dress in skinny jeans and have absolutely no purpose here other than to spend money on stupid looking hats and go out to get a photo taken at last nights party. I KNOW they exist. But wake the fuck up. Thats a small amount of people compared to the tons and tons of OTHER people who are creating stuff that you want. Writers, clothing designers, Artists, musicians ( I bet you didn't complain when you bought that band of horses or feist album because it was on a commercial for mac or for a car) film makers, actors, comedians, and that could go on forever. I probably look like one of these H words that you despise SO much. But I bet if you knew me, you wouldn't have such a bad rap for us. Get over your bitter high school clique mentality. You're an adult in a big city. Let's behave like adults.
